CM Sindh Criticises Court for Denying Police Physical Remand in Mustafa Amir Murder Case

Karachi– Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has raised concerns over a court’s decision to deny police physical remand of the prime suspect in the Mustafa Amir murder case, calling for a review of the judiciary’s handling of the matter.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a newly modernised Model Police Station on Sharea Faisal, CM Shah criticised a judge’s remarks regarding police conduct during the investigation. He questioned why the accused was immediately sent to judicial custody instead of being handed over to police for physical remand.

“I was surprised to learn that the suspect was not given in police custody. I have also heard that a judge remarked, ‘Has any DSP died [in the raid]?’. If this is true, it is highly inappropriate,” Shah stated. He urged the judiciary to take action against such remarks if verified.

The case involves the brutal murder of Mustafa Amir, a BBA student, who went missing on January 6. His charred body was discovered in a burnt car near Hub checkpost after weeks of investigation. Police claim that the suspect, Armughan, abducted Mustafa, murdered him, and set his body on fire.

During a raid at Armughan’s house last week, a standoff ensued, resulting in two police officers, including a DSP, sustaining injuries. Armughan was eventually arrested, and crucial evidence, including Mustafa’s mobile phone, was recovered.

CM Shah emphasized that while police officers found negligent should be dismissed, the judiciary must also ensure fair treatment of law enforcement. He called on the courts to reconsider their stance on physical remand in such serious cases.
