CM Punjab Expands Merit Scholarship Program, Approves New Universities

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a significant expansion of the Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship Program, increasing the number of scholarships from 4,000 to 25,000. This initiative will cover 100% of the fees for students pursuing BS degrees at public and eight private universities.

In a major push for education, the Chief Minister has also approved the immediate establishment of new universities in Jhelum, Vehari, and Bahawalnagar.
Additionally, CM Maryam Nawaz has called for the immediate rollout of the laptop scheme and the introduction of new disciplines in colleges to align with job market needs. An online portal system will be introduced for the appointment of Divisional Directors and Principals, streamlining administrative processes.

During a meeting chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz, plans for providing new buses to government colleges were presented, and recommendations for establishing universities under public-private partnerships were reviewed. A high-level ministry committee will be formed to oversee private university affairs.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of expanding free MD CAT and Roy CAT classes in colleges, particularly for students from remote areas, and encouraged private sector involvement in higher education to broaden opportunities for youth in underserved regions.
