CM Maryam Nawaz Seeks Energy-From-Waste Plan; Punjab to Enforce Fines for Littering

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for generating energy from waste, terming the province’s large-scale sanitation operations “nothing short of a miracle.”

Chairing a high-level meeting on the “Suthra Punjab” initiative, the Chief Minister announced major policy decisions aimed at improving cleanliness across the province. It was decided that strict fines will be imposed on individuals who throw garbage in public places, including commercial areas and roads.

The meeting further approved the introduction of eco-friendly electric vehicles for sanitation operations, marking a significant shift toward greener urban management.

Maryam Nawaz expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in developing an integrated sanitation system for cities and villages, saying,
“A comprehensive sanitation system should have been established years ago. We started from zero, but the Suthra Punjab project is continuously improving.”

She added that the public response to the initiative has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the government’s commitment to clean and sustainable cities.
