CM Maryam Nawaz Orders Rapid Flood Relief, Compensation in Chakwal

CM directed that elected representatives and the DC immediately deliver compensation cheques to the victims' homes.

Chakwal – (Asif Iqbal): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz visited flood-affected areas of Chakwal to assess the damage and oversee relief operations. She conducted an aerial survey of Takiya Shah Murad, Ameerpur Mangan, Lalyani, and Dheedwal, and inspected the Dhaman Bridge connecting Chakwal to Jhelum.

The CM ordered the urgent repair and reopening of Dhaman Bridge within two days for light traffic using a steel structure. She also directed immediate restoration of roads, bridges, and water drainage systems affected by the floods.

During her visit to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, CM Maryam Nawaz announced compensation of Rs. 50 lakh for victims of rain-related incidents. Families of four people killed due to building collapses and landslides in Chakwal will receive Rs. 10 lakh each.

To prepare for future emergencies, the CM ordered the reactivation and training of the Civil Defence Force across Punjab, evacuation of families from unsafe houses before the next spell of heavy rain, and temporary shelter arrangements in relief camps or government buildings.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized pre-emptive planning for the coming year, calling for micro-dam surveys and urgent construction of roads like Balkasar–Tewa Bahadur.

Briefing the CM, DC Sarah Hayat reported over 400mm of rainfall and a fourfold increase in water flow in the Choasidan Shah stream. Six areas, six roads, and four bridges were impacted. Timely rescue efforts, including by helicopter, saved 27 lives.

Commending district officials, CM Maryam Nawaz praised the swift response by police, rescue teams, and administration, noting no deaths occurred due to negligence.

She lauded Commissioner Rawalpindi, DC Sarah Hayat, and DPO Ahmad Mohiuddin for their effective disaster management and improved law and order, with theft and robbery cases down 30–40%.
