CM Maryam Nawaz announces landmark legislation against land mafia

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a landmark legislation to eliminate illegal occupation of lands, particularly those belonging to orphans, widows, and the underprivileged.
The new law proposes a fine along with 10 years’ imprisonment for land grabbers, while special courts will be established to ensure that every occupation case is decided within 90 days.
The Chief Minister said Punjab will no longer allow the exploitation of the poor and pledged strict action against the occupation mafia. S
he highlighted that law and order had significantly improved with the establishment of the CCD department in Punjab Police, noting that in areas where 100 crimes were once reported daily, the number has now dropped to just two.
Residents of Sargodha, she added, feel secure enough to go out at night without fear.

She said being the first female Chief Minister, she is committed to making Punjab the safest province for women.
The CM also announced a drop in wheat prices from Rs 4,100 to Rs 3,100, commended the para-force and other institutions for their services during recent floods, and noted that women are particularly happy as harassment issues have declined with the removal of encroachments. She added that Punjab has now become the first province of Pakistan to introduce a new model of governance.
