CM Haji Gulbar Khan Inspects PHQ Hospital Upgradation, Announces Key Initiatives
Ambitious Plan to Upgrade PHQ Hospital into Gilgit-Baltistan's Largest 800-Bed Facility

Gilgit-Baltistan: Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan visited the ongoing construction work of the PHQ Hospital Upgradation Project and underscored the significance of completing the project within the designated timeframe. During his inspection, Khan directed the expansion and prompt completion of the modern parking complex, a crucial part of the project.
The ambitious upgradation plan aims to transform the PHQ Hospital into an 800-bed facility, making it the largest hospital in Gilgit-Baltistan. To meet the hospital’s medical needs, the revised PC-1 will include provisions for necessary biomedical equipment and machinery.

In addition to the hospital’s physical expansion, the Chief Minister announced a series of initiatives aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure and services in the region. Key highlights include:
- Solar Power Projects: Installation of solar power systems in major hospitals, beginning with PHQ Hospital, to ensure a reliable, uninterrupted electricity supply.
- Staffing Enhancements: Addressing the shortage of specialists and general nurses at PHQ Hospital to ensure better healthcare delivery.
- Revenue Allocation: A cabinet decision will be made to allocate a specific share of revenue generated from hospitals back to the hospitals, boosting operational funding.
- Doctors’ Hostels: Construction of hostels for doctors in all provincial hospitals, starting with a multi-story hostel project at PHQ Hospital to provide accommodation for medical staff.
- Procurement Cell and Biomedical Unit: Establishment of a dedicated procurement cell and biomedical unit to ensure timely supply of medicines and the proper maintenance and repair of medical machinery.
- Electricity Infrastructure: Installation of necessary transformers to address voltage issues and ensure a stable power supply at PHQ Hospital.
The Chief Minister received a detailed briefing on the progress of the upgradation project and other hospital departments from the Provincial Health Secretary, the Construction Department, and the Director of Medical Services (DMS) at PHQ Hospital.
These steps reflect the provincial government’s commitment to improving healthcare facilities and ensuring better services for the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan.
