Chinese defence leader meets Gen Asim Munir, reaffirms enduring Pak-China ties
RAWALPINDI: General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission (CMC), praised the professionalism and dedication of the Pakistan Army during his visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday. Accompanied by a high-level Chinese delegation, General Zhang met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Asim Munir, to discuss regional security, mutual interests, and strengthening defence cooperation between the two nations.
The visit began with General Zhang laying a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada in tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs. A guard of honour was presented by a contingent of the Pakistan Army as part of the formal welcome for the Chinese dignitary.
In their discussions, General Zhang commended the Pakistan Army’s sustained efforts in counter-terrorism operations, emphasizing China’s recognition of Pakistan’s role in maintaining regional stability and combating terrorism. He reiterated Beijing’s strong commitment to enhancing the strategic partnership with Islamabad, highlighting the “all-weather” relationship built on mutual trust.
The meeting featured a one-on-one discussion between General Zhang and COAS Munir, followed by talks at the delegation level. Both sides focused on improving regional security, fostering stability, and further strengthening defence collaboration.

COAS Munir underscored the historic nature of Pakistan-China relations, noting that the enduring partnership had withstood numerous international challenges. He expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support, regardless of changing global and regional dynamics.
