China Welcomes Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for Diplomatic Visit
State visit expected to enhance bilateral relations and economic partnerships between Punjab and China.
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong met with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday to explore opportunities for enhancing cooperation between China and Pakistan, focusing on technology, business, and investment.
During the discussion, Nawaz Sharif underscored the strong ties between the two nations, referring to China as a trusted ally and expressing pride in the deep-rooted friendship. “We take pride in our bond with this great nation,” Sharif said, adding that Punjab is ready to welcome Chinese collaboration in infrastructure and technological progress.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz shared her vision for economic collaboration with China, stating, “Together, we can achieve economic milestones.” She expressed Punjab’s readiness to attract Chinese investors and revealed plans to create exclusive “Chinese Economic Zones” that would offer special incentives and privileges to Chinese businesses. She also praised China’s successful poverty reduction strategies, highlighting their potential benefits for Pakistan.
Ambassador Jiang Zedong commended the welfare projects initiated by Maryam Nawaz in Punjab, such as the Nexan Card and the Tractor Scheme, aimed at bolstering the agricultural sector. He confirmed China’s commitment to investing in Punjab’s agriculture and announced that 1,000 Pakistani farmers would receive training from Chinese experts in modern agricultural practices. The ambassador also reaffirmed China’s strong friendship with Pakistan and noted the advancements in bilateral relations during PML-N’s leadership.
“China will enthusiastically welcome Punjab’s participation in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),” said Jiang Zedong.
He extended an invitation to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to visit China, which she accepted, becoming the first woman Chief Minister of Pakistan to receive such an invitation.
Both sides expressed optimism about the future of China-Pakistan relations, with Nawaz Sharif reflecting on the achievements of his previous administration, during which, according to the Chinese ambassador, relations between the two countries reached unprecedented levels.
