China Welcomes PM Modi’s Visit for SCO Summit
First trip in seven years could boost SCO ties and strengthen India-China friendship.
China – India-(Special Correspondent/Web desk) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to visit China for the first time in seven years to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit on August 31–September 1 in Tianjin.
China said the visit could strengthen friendship among SCO members and deliver fruitful results.
China Extends Warm Welcome
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday that China warmly welcomes PM Modi to the SCO summit.
“We believe this will be a meeting of solidarity, friendship and progress,” Guo said, adding that the summit will push the SCO into a new stage of high-quality development.
A Record SCO Gathering
According to China’s Global Times, leaders from over 20 countries and heads of 10 international organizations will attend the summit.
Officials say this will be the largest SCO gathering since the group was formed.
First China Visit in Seven Years
Indian media outlets, including India Today, reported that this would be PM Modi’s first trip to China since 2018.
Although neither India nor China has officially confirmed the visit, the news has drawn global attention.
Relations Under the Spotlight
The Global Times noted that despite tensions, there are signs of warming ties between China and India.
Both nations account for over one-third of the world’s population and are major economic and political powers.
Observers believe their relations at this point carry global significance.
From Tensions to a Fresh Restart
Relations cooled after the 2020 border clash, but a meeting between the two leaders in Kazan last October marked a fresh restart.
Both countries agreed they are partners, not threats, and that development and cooperation should be the focus.

Recent High-Level Visits
Since June, several senior Indian officials — including Ajit Doval, Rajnath Singh, and S. Jaishankar — have visited China.
Both sides have resumed talks on previously suspended cooperation mechanisms.
Boost in People-to-People Ties
China and India have also reopened pilgrimages to Mount Gang Rinpoche and Lake Mapam Yun Tso, and resumed tourist visa issuance for Chinese visitors to India.
These moves are seen as positive signals for better ties.
Both countries hope to use the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations to achieve greater progress.
If PM Modi’s visit takes place, it could be a key moment to strengthen trust and build momentum in China-India relations.
