China Supports ASEAN-Led Peace Talks to Ease Cambodia-Thailand Tensions
BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) —Special/Web Desk) – China says it will keep helping ASEAN promote peace talks. The country also wants to help improve relations between Cambodia and Thailand, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Tuesday.
GBC Meeting Held in Malaysia
From August 4 to 7, Cambodia and Thailand are meeting in Malaysia for the General Border Committee (GBC) talks. China has been invited to join a special session of the meeting on August 7.
Calm Returns After Talks
Guo said that since the three countries—China, Cambodia, and Thailand—held informal talks on July 30, there has been peace at the border. The fighting has stopped, and both sides are following a ceasefire.

Malaysia Helps Talks Move Forward
Malaysia, as the current ASEAN chair, is helping both countries talk more. The GBC meeting aims to create a plan to watch over the ceasefire. Guo said China supports this and thinks it will stop future fights.
