China-EU diplomatic relations strengthen ahead of summit. In preparation for the upcoming China-EU summit, Wang Yi, a senior Chinese diplomat, hosted envoys from the European Union (EU) and its member countries in Beijing. Despite facing challenges, Wang Yi emphasized the resilience of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, which has spanned over two decades. He underscored the importance of this enduring relationship and its global impact.
Wang Yi highlighted the positive momentum in China-EU exchanges throughout the year, with high-level official dialogues and consensus-building on cooperation. Emphasizing mutual respect, he called for seeking common ground to serve their respective fundamental interests while contributing to global stability.
The EU head of mission to China expressed appreciation for the high-level in-person communication and looked forward to the China-EU summit in Beijing later in the week. Despite differences in political and economic systems, the EU reiterated its commitment to pursuing constructive and stable relations with China.
Both parties agreed to continue communication on various global issues, including the Hamas-Israel conflict and the Ukraine crisis. The upcoming summit, scheduled for December 7 and 8, is expected to cover economic matters and discussions on global conflicts. Beijing has consistently emphasized that China and the EU are partners rather than rivals, advocating for the steady growth of their relationship.
