AJK Accountability Chief Vows to hold everyone accountable, including PM, ministers

AJK Accountability Bureau Implements Reforms and Reopens Past Cases

MUZAFFARABAD (Raja Shoaib Mehmood): Chairman of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Accountability Bureau, Mushtaq Ahmad Janjua Advocate, has asserted that decisive action can be taken against the Prime Minister and ministers, provided there is substantial evidence against them. Janjua emphasized that even the President of the State is not immune from facing an FIR, though he enjoys immunity while in office.

In light of recent amendments to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Accountability Act, Janjua assured that the accountability process will now be impeccable. “I am personally against suo motu actions,” he added.

Janjua highlighted that the bureau has initiated its accountability measures within its own institution. “It’s easy to call for accountability to start at home, but we have indeed begun from within,” he stated. He expressed his resolve to withstand any pressure, asserting that absolute accountability will prevail as long as he holds his position.

The recent amendments to the Accountability Act were deemed necessary, Janjua noted. He explained that secretaries now have the authority to send references for their departments, while the government retains the authority regarding references involving ministers or secretaries. Additionally, new personnel will undergo training at NAB.

Addressing inquiries, Janjua revealed that numerous cases filed in the past are being reopened. Efforts to curtail unnecessary recruitment have been implemented, and 13 surplus vehicles have been returned to the transport pool, saving the organization millions of rupees.

Janjua urged the public to report any instances of corruption, assuring that the accountability bureau will act on a single request.
