Celebrities Slam Negligence After Deadly Gul Plaza Fire
Celebrities Demand Accountability After Karachi’s Deadly Gul Plaza Fire
KARACHI (Web Desk) – As the nation mourned the victims of the devastating fire at Karachi’s Gul Plaza, celebrities from across Pakistan joined the public in expressing grief, anger and solidarity with the affected families, while sharply criticizing official negligence and repeated failures to enforce safety standards.
Rescue and relief operations continued on Tuesday amid fears that the fire-ravaged multi-storey building could collapse. Officials said a portion of the structure had already caved in, while several pillars were reportedly weakened and bent due to extreme heat from the blaze.
The fire broke out late Saturday night in one of Karachi’s busiest commercial hubs, prompting families of missing persons to rush to the site. The death toll has risen to at least 26, while the search continues for more than 80 people feared trapped or missing.
Several prominent celebrities took to social media to voice sorrow and outrage. Actress Hania Aamir described the tragedy as “devastating,” stressing that such incidents are not mere accidents but the result of long-standing negligence and ignored safety protocols. She offered prayers for the victims and called for accountability beyond routine condolences.

Actress Aiman Khan said she was heartbroken by the incident and extended prayers to the victims and their families, while Zhalay Sarhadi prayed for the departed souls and strength for the bereaved.
Minal Khan shared a strongly worded message, lamenting Karachi’s persistent governance failures. Calling the city “loved in words but abandoned in action,” she said Gul Plaza was not just a building but part of the city’s collective memory, adding that the tragedy highlighted how human lives are reduced to statistics when safety is treated as optional.
Social media influencer Jannat Mirza amplified public frustration by resharing posts questioning how a building housing hundreds could reportedly have only one fire extinguisher, calling the disaster preventable and demanding answers.
Veteran actress Mahira Khan also expressed anguish, saying the incident left her feeling angry and helpless. She questioned whether the tragedy was an accident or a result of indifference, recalling the building’s poor exit access and asking how the loss of lives could ever be compensated.
