CCI Approves Termination of Indus River Canal Project
No Canal Projects Without Mutual Consent: PM said.
ISLAMABAD – The Council of Common Interests (CCI) has officially approved the termination of the controversial canal project from the Indus River, following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The meeting, attended by all four Chief Ministers and other senior officials, saw a unanimous decision to cancel the project, which had sparked debates and concerns among various stakeholders. According to sources, a technical committee will now be formed to determine the future course of action regarding the construction of the canal.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had met with the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and announced that a CCI meeting would be convened on May 2 to discuss the canal project. However, in response to a request from the Sindh government, the Prime Minister decided to hold the meeting ahead of schedule, bringing the matter to a conclusion sooner than expected.
In a joint press conference with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Prime Minister emphasized that no canal projects would move forward without mutual consent. He reassured the public that the decision made at the CCI meeting would reflect the consensus of all parties involved.
