LAHORE – Newly appointed caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi rejected on Monday to take any sort of protocol.
Mr Naqvi made it clear that he will use petrol and a vehicle on his own expense. He reached the chief minister’s office without any protocol to call on the officers. The officers of CM House were introduced to Mr Naqvi.
Yesterday, PML-N’s nominee and media tycoon Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi took oath as the Punjab caretaker chief minister in a ceremony held in Lahore on Sunday’s late night.
Punjab Governor Baligur Rehman administered oath to Mohsin, whose name for the provincial caretaker role was finalised by the Election Commission of Pakistan after the failure of the government and the opposition to reach a consensus on the caretaker chief executive.
Earlier, the decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja. The Election Commission Secretary was among the participants in the meeting to appoint Mohsin Naqvi as caretaker CM.
The electoral watchdog issued a notification which stated that “Pursuant to the provison of Clause (3) of Article 224A of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and as a result of detailed deliberations made on 22nd January 2023. The Election Commission of Pakistan has unanimously decided to appoint Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi as Care-Taker Chief Minister, Punjab with immediate effect.”
Mohsin Raza Naqvi Monday paid a surprise visit to his ancestral city Nowshera Virkan and also went to his village Leel Virkan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Caretaker CM also visited the Government Afzal Shah Girls high school and Government Afzal Naqvi Boys primary school meeting the faculty and the students as well.
Mohsin Raza Naqvi also went to the graveyard and offered Fatiha for his mother, uncle Afzal Naqvi and his ancestors. He returned to Lahore keeping his visit secretive.
