Cafés in Islamabad Emerging as Drug Hubs for Youth: Urgent Action Needed
ISLAMABAD: Cafés in the federal capital especially in F-6, F-7, E-7, F-8, F-10, F-11 , G-8, G-9 and I-8 are increasingly becoming hotspots for illicit activities, particularly the promotion and use of drugs among young men and women. This alarming trend demands immediate attention from authorities to safeguard the future of the city’s youth.
Reports and accounts from concerned citizens suggest that several cafés and lounges, particularly in posh sectors of Islamabad, are facilitating an environment where drug use is normalized. What began as spaces for socializing have now transformed into hubs where illegal substances, including marijuana, synthetic drugs, and other narcotics, are discreetly distributed.
Parents and educators have expressed grave concerns over the rising number of cases of young individuals falling into drug addiction, often lured by the seemingly “glamorous” culture these cafés promote. Peer pressure and lack of oversight have exacerbated the problem, as many of these establishments operate late into the night without proper monitoring.
“The unchecked environment in these cafés is destroying our youth.
Authorities must take stringent measures to regulate these places before the situation spirals out of control,” said a worried parents.
Despite various anti-drug campaigns in schools and colleges, the availability of drugs in public spaces such as cafés undermines these efforts. Law enforcement agencies need to conducted periodic to dismantle the growing network of drug peddlers operating under the guise of café culture.

It is imperative for the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Islamabad Police, and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to collaborate and impose stricter checks on such establishments. Regular inspections, licensing reviews, and mandatory surveillance systems in cafés could serve as effective deterrents. Additionally, awareness campaigns aimed at educating young people about the dangers of drug abuse must be intensified.
The youth represent the future of the nation, and their health and well-being should be a top priority. Authorities are urged to act swiftly to curb this menace and restore Islamabad’s reputation as a safe and progressive city. The time for action is now.
