Cabinet Meeting Postponed, Constitutional Amendments in Limbo
The government’s efforts to introduce the 26th Constitutional Amendment faced another setback in the initial phase, as the federal cabinet meeting, where the amendments were to be approved, has been postponed.
The postponement has been attributed to the government’s inability to secure the backing of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Therefore, according to sources, it is unlikely the government will move the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill in today’s sessions of parliament, which had been re-convened to especially table the bill.
Due to the setback, normal proceedings will continue in the National Assembly today where a three-point agenda is scheduled for discussion, according to the sources.
