ISLAMABAD — The federal cabinet has approved the Hajj Policy for 2026 in its meeting held on Wednesday, announcing an increase in the government quota for Hajj pilgrims.
According to sources, the government quota has been raised by 10 percent compared to last year. Under the new policy, 70 percent of the total Hajj quota will be allocated to government-sponsored pilgrims, while the remaining 30 percent will be reserved for private tour operators.
Initially, the Ministry of Religious Affairs had proposed a quota distribution of 40 percent for government-sponsored pilgrims and 60 percent for private operators. However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took a personal interest in the matter and ordered a review, resulting in the revised 70:30 split in favor of the government scheme.
Sources also revealed that the estimated cost for performing Hajj under the government scheme in 2026 will range between Rs1.15 million and Rs1.25 million.
