Bumrah comeback highlights India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad

India recall Jasprit Bumrah for Asia Cup 2025 as Suryakumar Yadav leads strong UAE squad.

India-(Special Corredpondent / Web Desk)-India’s pace superstar Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make his T20I comeback after more than a year, with the BCCI confirming his inclusion in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad.

The tournament, hosted by India but played in the UAE for logistical reasons, will take place from September 9 to 28.

Bumrah last featured in a T20 International in June 2024, when India won the T20 World Cup against South Africa. He was named Player of the Series, taking 15 wickets, including a match-winning 2/18 in the final.

Since then, the 31-year-old pacer has managed injuries and workload concerns, missing parts of India’s white-ball and Test cricket assignments earlier this year.

Chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar explained the approach clearly:

“We want Bumrah fit for all the big games—World Cups, Champions Trophies, and crucial series against England and Australia. Keeping him fresh is the key.”

Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead India, with Shubman Gill as his deputy. The squad also welcomes young guns Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Rinku Singh, alongside experienced all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel.

Wicketkeeping duties will be shared by Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma, while the spin attack will feature Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy.

However, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj missed out despite pre-tournament buzz around their inclusion.

India is placed in Group A with Pakistan, the UAE, and Oman. Their fixtures are:

  • India vs UAE – Sept 10, Dubai International Stadium
  • India vs Pakistan – Sept 14, Dubai International Stadium
  • India vs Oman – Sept 19, Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

India remains the most successful team in Asia Cup history, with 8 titles—seven in ODIs and one in T20Is. Their first triumph came in 1984 under Sunil Gavaskar, while the latest was in 2023, when Rohit Sharma’s side crushed Sri Lanka in the final.

With Bumrah returning to lead the pace attack, fans will hope India can defend their crown and chase a record ninth Asia Cup title in 2025.
