Britain, France, and Ukraine Plan to End Conflict with Russia Amid US Tensions
Britain and France are working alongside Ukraine to develop plans to end the ongoing conflict with Russia, as European leaders gathered in London for crisis talks following tensions between Kyiv and Washington. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged world leaders to unite, emphasizing the need for lasting peace after three years of war.
Starmer highlighted that the UK, France, and potentially other nations will collaborate with Ukraine to find a solution, which will then be discussed with the United States. He echoed the sentiments of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, stressing the importance of avoiding division within the West.
The summit in London, attended by leaders from across Europe and NATO, also focused on enhancing defense cooperation amidst growing concerns about US support for NATO. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted that Warsaw could leverage its ties with Washington to bolster Ukraine’s position.
During his visit to London, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Starmer and discussed strategies to secure a lasting peace that prevents Russia from rearming. Zelensky also secured a £2.26 billion loan to support Ukraine’s defense, to be repaid from frozen Russian assets.
Earlier, Zelensky faced heated criticism at the White House, where US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused him of failing to show gratitude for proposed ceasefire terms. Despite tensions, Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine would not compromise with Russia, emphasizing the need for transparency in negotiations.

The summit underlined the importance of unity within NATO and Europe, as leaders sought a unified strategy to resolve the conflict and ensure continued support for Ukraine.
