Blood Moon 2026 Total Lunar Eclipse March 3

Rare Total Lunar Eclipse Blood Moon 2026 This March

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Skywatchers are in for a spectacular celestial show as the first total lunar eclipse of 2026, popularly called the Blood Moon 2026, is set to occur on March 3. During this event, the Moon will gradually move into Earth’s shadow, taking on a deep crimson hue that has inspired myths and awe for centuries.

The eclipse will begin at 2:50 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST), with the most dramatic phase, totality, peaking at 4:33 PM PST. During totality, the Moon will appear fully immersed in Earth’s shadow, glowing in rich red shades for roughly an hour. While the event will not be directly visible from Pakistan, astronomy enthusiasts are encouraged to follow live streams from major space and scientific organizations to witness it virtually.

This year’s Blood Moon is particularly special, as it is the only total lunar eclipse of 2026. The next opportunity to see a similar phenomenon will not arrive until the New Year’s Eve eclipse of 2028.

First solar eclipse 2026 today: Will Pakistan see it clearly?

The best viewing areas include parts of Central and North America, Northeast Asia, Australia, and regions of the Central Pacific. Online broadcasts are expected to provide real-time coverage for those in areas where the eclipse cannot be seen in person.

The Moon’s reddish appearance, a result of Rayleigh scattering, occurs when Earth’s atmosphere filters out shorter blue and green wavelengths, allowing only red light to reach the Moon’s surface. This natural process, also responsible for red sunsets, creates the dramatic “blood moon” effect.

Astronomy enthusiasts around the world are advised to follow reputable space organizations online to witness this rare and breathtaking cosmic event.
