Turbat Blast Claims Four Lives, Injures 32

QUETTA: A deadly blast rocked the city of Turbat in Balochistan on Saturday, killing at least four people and injuring 32 others, according to police reports. Among the injured, five are reported to be in critical condition. The exact nature of the blast has not been determined yet.

CCTV footage captured by a private news channel revealed a chilling scene as several vehicles were seen moving on the road when a massive explosion engulfed a passenger bus in a fiery blaze. The blast has left the city shaken, with authorities scrambling to gather information and assess the situation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Zohaib Mohsin, who heads the Serious Crime Wing, was also injured in the blast. Six members of his family, who were traveling with him, also sustained injuries. The police confirmed that Mohsin and his family were passing through the area when the explosion occurred.

This blast follows a previous attack in the Dasht area of Turbat last month, in which two people were killed and four others injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack. The blast also caused significant damage to a vehicle. The recent surge in such attacks has raised concerns, with security experts linking the increasing violence in the region to the return of the Taliban government in neighboring Afghanistan.

According to the Center for Research and Security Studies’ Annual Security Report, Balochistan has been one of the most affected provinces, with 782 deaths recorded in 2024, out of a total of 2,546 fatalities across Pakistan.

Condemnations: The blast has been met with strong condemnation from various political leaders. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah condemned the attack, calling it an inhumane and despicable act. In a statement, Shah emphasized that targeting innocent civilians is a cruel and barbaric act, and vowed that terrorists would never succeed in their malicious objectives.
