BISP Increases Cash Stipend to Rs. 13,500, Beneficiaries to Receive Major Relief
BISP Shifts to Direct Bank Transfers for Increased Transparency and Convenience
KARACHI: In a significant move to provide relief to low-income families across Pakistan, the government has announced an increase in the quarterly cash stipend for beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). Starting from January 2025, the quarterly amount will rise by Rs. 3,000, reaching a total of Rs. 13,500 per beneficiary.
BISP Chairman Senator Rubina Khalid confirmed the announcement, stating that the government’s goal is to support 10 million families by the end of this year. This increase comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen social safety nets and combat poverty in the country.
In addition to the increased stipend, the government has also made a significant change in the disbursement process. Moving forward, the funds will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. This step, following directives from President Asif Ali Zardari and in consultation with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), aims to enhance the transparency, convenience, and dignity of the disbursement process, eliminating any potential issues related to deductions or mistreatment.
To further improve the accessibility and quality of services, a modern call center has been established with a dedicated helpline at 0800-26477. Additionally, Mobile Registration Vans will be deployed to the field to assist beneficiaries in remote areas, ensuring that the programme’s benefits reach the most vulnerable and underserved communities.
