Bill to Increase Supreme Court Judges Set for National Assembly Review

A bill aimed at expanding the number of Supreme Court judges is set to be introduced in the National Assembly on Friday.

Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal): According to parliamentary sources, the bill proposes raising the total number of judges from 17 to 23, inclusive of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. This initiative is now being led by the government, though a similar proposal was previously submitted by Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry as a private member’s bill.

Additionally, discussions are underway to consider amendments to the Practice and Procedure Act.

The National Assembly session, initially scheduled to end on Tuesday, has been extended until Friday to facilitate the bill’s passage, sources confirmed.
