It is noteworthy that on 12th May 2007, Karachi witnessed a wave of violence during the arrival of the then-inactive Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Sindh High Court. The opposition parties’ workers came out to welcome the ousted Chief Justice, leading to armed clashes between supporters of the government and opposition parties. The city’s streets witnessed bloodshed, with 48 individuals, including lawyers, being brutally killed.
