Press Information Center’s training workshop on fake news kicks off,
Islamabad (Saeed Ch) Two day training workshop for mid-career journalists on ” news authenticity and tools to counter fake news & anti state propaganda” organized by Pakistan information center of ministry of information and broadcasting kicked off yesterday in Press Information Academy Islamabad.
The Ministry has launched a series of workshops for the capacity building of new and mid-career journalists across the country.
The two day workshop is being conducted seasoned and renowned journalists of Pakistan media industry.
During the first session of yesterday schedule, the senior journalist Azaz Syed delivering his lecture said that fake news has become a global phenomenon to hamper the quality of real journalism.
He said the journalists should be careful in collecting facts and to narrate the story and always follow the principle of contextual nature of the news.
He inspired the trainee journalists that they must follow the stories of renowned reporters which would provide you the basic techniques in constructing your own content.
In second session senior journalist and anchor person Syed Talat Hussain shared his experience which he learnt by his mistakes during professional career.
He gave professional tips to counter fake news. His emphasise was on the accuracy of fact, text, content and talks.
He told that your emotional investment can mislead you during your reporting so try your best to keep you detached while doing reporting.
He emphasised on facts checking mechanism in collecting information. A journalists should not create trust on source unless the information provided by him are not testified by other sources.
He alerted the trainee reporters that you must be aware about the news which are following you because the source can use you for his own anterior motives. Always recheck his provided information through other sources.
The most important tip of his lecture was attribution of statements. He told if you want to keep your physical and digital security alive then always attribute controversial statements with sources.
He inspired the trainees to focus on comprehensive study which make you able to grasp the facts for st stories.
The participants of the training were of the views that such type of training by ministry of information and broadcasting are very useful for their career building.
