Kasur and its adjoining areas have been severely affected by the recent torrential rains and the release of water from India. Fields, livestock, and houses have been swept away, leaving behind widespread devastation. While the exact scale of losses is yet to be determined, one fact is clear: thousands of families have been displaced and are now forced to seek shelter in government relief camps.
In these trying circumstances, the continuous presence of Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan in the flood-hit regions has emerged as a beacon of hope for the affected people. The visit of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also carried immense significance. Her first official visit to Kasur’s flood victims, along with the announcement of a relief package, sent a strong message of solidarity and reassurance.
Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan toured several affected villages, including Najabat, Budh Singh Wala, Range Wala, Sadar, Matar, Khilji Jagir, and Tatrikey. Personally meeting displaced families, he distributed ration bags, clothing and footwear for women and children, and fodder for livestock. This relief effort was more than material assistance; it reflected the leadership’s willingness to share the pain of its people.
He further directed the administration to ensure medical camps, access to clean drinking water, and temporary shelters for the victims. The Speaker has not confined himself to local efforts but is also raising the voice of flood-affected communities on the assembly floor, striving for long-term rehabilitation measures.
During this crisis, the role of the “Awami Khidmat Group” also deserves recognition. Working tirelessly day and night, they continue to provide support and aid to affected families. This spirit of collective service demonstrates how genuine leadership, when aligned with its people, can kindle hope even in moments of despair.
Path to Development
Alongside flood relief, development projects in the constituency are also gaining momentum. These initiatives prioritize education, infrastructure, and employment opportunities.
Vocational University
A state-of-the-art vocational university is planned near Khudian Khas, with an estimated cost of Rs 10 billion. Its purpose is to equip young people with practical skills, opening doors to better employment and contributing to both educational advancement and economic uplift.
Eastern Punjab Motorway (M-17 Model)
Spanning nearly 295 kilometers, this motorway project is set to commence at an estimated cost of Rs 436 billion, with targeted completion within two years. It is expected to significantly boost travel convenience, trade connectivity, and investment prospects.
Expansion of Educational Institutions
Understanding the importance of quality education, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has prioritized the expansion of colleges and establishment of new educational institutions, ensuring that opportunities for learning remain accessible to every student in the region.
Clean Punjab & Drainage System
Under the “Clean Punjab” campaign, Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan set a personal example by launching the initiative with a broom in hand. Meanwhile, a modern drainage system for Khudian Khas has been approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, with work to begin soon. The Chief Minister has also approved several other development schemes for Kasur and its surroundings at the request of the Speaker, some of which are already underway. These efforts underline the reality that when politics is embraced as a form of public service, it delivers both relief and progress.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has set a living example of leadership standing by his people in their time of crisis while also laying down the foundation for a prosperous future. True leadership lies not only in providing immediate relief but also in guiding communities toward long-term development and hope.
