BCCI Responds to Bangladesh Request to Shift World Cup Matches from India
Under the current schedule, Bangladesh’s first three T20 World Cup matches will be played in Kolkata
KOLKATA: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has responded to reports that Bangladesh is seeking to move its World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka.
The request reportedly comes after Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was withdrawn from the IPL, prompting the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to consider player safety ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Bangladesh’s sports advisor, Asif Nazrul, has advised the BCB to formally request the International Cricket Council (ICC) to hold Bangladesh’s matches in Sri Lanka instead of India. He stated that if a Bangladeshi player cannot safely participate in India, the team itself may not feel secure playing there.

Sources within the BCCI, however, have indicated that with only a month remaining, changing the venue is nearly impossible. They emphasized that matches cannot be relocated based on individual requests, calling the move extremely difficult.
Under the current schedule, Bangladesh’s first three T20 World Cup matches will be played in Kolkata, while the fourth match is set for Mumbai on February 17.
