Bangladesh, Sri Lanka Start U19 Asia Cup Campaigns With Wins

Sri Lanka now tops Group B on net run rate, followed by Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal at the bottom.

ISLAMABAD: Sri Lanka dominated Nepal, while defending champions Bangladesh secured a thrilling victory over Afghanistan to kick off their ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2025 campaigns on Saturday.

At the ICC Academy, Bangladesh chased down Afghanistan’s challenging total of 284 with three wickets to spare. Zawad Abrar anchored the innings with 96 off 112 balls, while Rifat Beg contributed 62 and skipper Azizul Hakim added 47. Afghanistan’s Faisal Shinozada scored a brisk 103, supported by Uzairullah Niazai’s 44. Bangladesh bowlers Shahriar Ahmed, Iqbal Hossain Emon, Saad Islam, Samiun Basir, and Rizan Hossan shared the wickets.

Meanwhile, at The Sevens Stadium, Sri Lanka crushed Nepal by eight wickets. Nepal struggled to 82 all out, with Cibrin Shrestha top-scoring with 18. Sethmika Seneviratne starred with 5/25, supported by four other bowlers. Sri Lanka chased the target comfortably, led by Dimantha Mahavithana’s 39* and Kavija Gamage’s 24*, losing only one wicket.
