Bangladesh Launches Digital Tax Filing Initiative to Simplify Compliance
Muhammad Yunus Promotes Digital Taxation and Encourages Nationwide Participation

DHAKA: In a bid to streamline the income tax filing process, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, recently announced new digital measures aimed at simplifying tax submissions for both individuals and corporate employees. The announcement, made via his official Facebook page, targets taxpayers in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur, including government workers, scheduled bank employees, telecom staff, and officials from various multinational firms. These individuals are now required to file their tax returns online as part of the government’s initiative to move towards digital tax administration.
Yunus acknowledged the challenges that many taxpayers face in the current system but reassured the public that the government is introducing reforms to ease the process. “Taxes are a vital part of our economy,” he said, underlining the importance of this change. The Chief Adviser also emphasized that the transition to digital tax filing is not just about ease, but also about modernizing the tax system to encourage wider participation.
As part of the initiative, Yunus announced plans to encourage others across the country to adopt digital filing. He proposed a district-wise competition to boost the adoption of online tax submissions, with state awards for organisations showing high participation rates. Yunus also urged young people to take an active role in assisting their neighbors and relatives with digital filing, promoting digital literacy as an essential skill for the future of entrepreneurship.
