Balochistan Govt Calls for Reduction in Airline Fares Amid Increased Travel Costs
QUETTA: The Balochistan government has presented a joint resolution to the provincial assembly, urging a significant reduction in airline fares due to rising travel costs that have impacted residents, particularly those needing medical transportation. Provincial Minister Sadiq Umrani highlighted the challenges faced by locals, pointing out that the closure of the national highway between Quetta and Karachi has led many to rely on air travel for essential travel, especially for transporting patients.
The resolution notes that airlines have sharply increased their fares, with one-way tickets for flights between Quetta and Karachi now priced at Rs70,000. This marks a stark contrast to previous prices, which ranged from Rs17,000 to Rs20,000. Current fares for the same routes have escalated to anywhere between Rs72,000 and Rs100,000, creating financial strain on residents.
Minister Sadiq Umrani, alongside other supporters of the resolution, has urged the provincial government to engage with federal authorities to ensure a fair reduction in these exorbitant rates.

The Balochistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has also expressed its concern over the skyrocketing fares, calling for an increase in the number of flights from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other carriers to meet growing demand. The BCCI has emphasized the importance of addressing this issue to support the local economy and ensure affordable access to essential travel for the people of Balochistan.
As the situation continues to worsen, the provincial government is under increasing pressure to act swiftly and alleviate the burden on the residents of Balochistan.
