Babar & Shaheen shine as leading performers for Pakistan in 2023

In a stellar display of cricketing prowess, Pakistan’s national cricket team witnessed outstanding performances by batter Babar Azam and T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi throughout the year 2023. Babar Azam showcased his batting brilliance, accumulating a remarkable 1,399 runs in 35 matches, featuring three centuries and ten half-centuries.

On the bowling front, Shaheen Shah Afridi emerged as the team’s top wicket-taker, securing an impressive tally of 62 wickets in 30 matches with an outstanding average of 27.80. The Pakistan Cricket Board, acknowledging their exceptional contributions, took to social media, stating, “Leading run-getter and top wicket-taker for Pakistan in international cricket in 2023.”

The cricket board further engaged fans by asking, “Which performances by Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi were your favorites in the past 12 months?” This recognition highlights the individual brilliance of these players, contributing significantly to Pakistan’s success on the international cricket stage.

Three Pakistani cricketers, Haris Rauf, Osama Mir, and Zaman Khan, who were participating in the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia, have returned to join the national team ahead of the third Test against Australia. While not part of the Test squad, the trio will actively participate in practice sessions with the national team in preparation for the upcoming match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Despite their initial request for NOCs to play additional matches in the BBL, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided against granting the NOCs, emphasizing the team’s commitment to the Test series against Australia. The national team is gearing up for the final Test, looking to showcase a strong performance after losing the three-match series. Practice sessions are scheduled for January 1 and January 2, 2024, leading up to the crucial Test match starting on January 3.
