Babar Azam returns as Pakistan captain in white-ball cricket

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the reappointment of Babar Azam as the captain of the national team for T20Is and one-day internationals (ODIs), ahead of the highly anticipated five-match T20I series against New Zealand scheduled to kick off on April 18.

Babar Azam, who had relinquished his captaincy last November, is set to resume his leadership role following a period of reflection and reevaluation. The decision comes amidst strategic planning for upcoming fixtures, with the PCB aiming to reinforce team dynamics and performance.

The move to reinstate Babar Azam as captain follows a period of scrutiny and assessment after Pakistan’s underwhelming performances in tournaments such as the Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup. The PCB recognizes the need for stability and experience in leadership as the team prepares for future challenges.

With a wealth of experience comprising 52 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 109 T20Is for the national side, Babar Azam is poised to lead Pakistan cricket into a new era, instilling confidence and determination in the team as they strive for success on the international stage.
