Babar Azam Resigns as White-Ball Captain of Pakistan Team
Babar Azam has officially announced his decision to step down as the white-ball captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, Late on Tuesday, Babar took to the social media platform X to share the news, stating that he has chosen to resign from his role as captain of the men’s team, a decision he communicated to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the team management last month.
In his post, Babar expressed: “I want to inform everyone that I have decided to step down from my position as captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. This decision is effective from the moment I notified the PCB and team management last month.
“Leading this team has been a great privilege, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step aside and concentrate on my role as a player.
“While being captain has been an enriching experience, it has also come with a heavy workload. My main focus now is to improve my performance, enjoy my batting, and spend more quality time with my family, which truly makes me happy.”
Babar previously held the position of captain across all formats for Pakistan. After the team’s disappointing performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, he relinquished his role. Shaheen Shah Afridi initially replaced him as T20I captain, but Babar was reinstated as captain in March 2024.
