Azhar Mahmood Shuts Down Rumours, Confirms Babar Azam Is in Lahore — Not Dubai

The post has since gone viral, with fans praising Azhar Mahmood for addressing the rumours with humour and clarity.

LAHORE – Pakistan red-ball head coach Azhar Mahmood has dismissed swirling online rumours claiming that Babar Azam was in Dubai for potential inclusion in the national squad, confirming instead that the star batter is currently in Lahore.

Taking to social media on September 21, Azhar shared a lighthearted photo of himself with Babar on a golf course in Lahore, clearly refuting speculation about the former captain’s presence in Dubai.

“Breaking news: Babar spotted in Dubai 👀 … oh wait, that’s just him slicing another superb golf shot on a beautiful golf course here in Lahore 🤣⛳,” Mahmood wrote in a playful post on X (formerly Twitter), tagging Babar Azam and adding the hashtags #Lahore, #Golf, and #PAKvIND.

The clarification came after rumours began circulating online suggesting that Babar had travelled to Dubai amid the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 tournament, potentially for a surprise call-up or appearance in the Pakistan-India Super Four clash.

Babar Azam, who was recently rested from international duties to focus on red-ball cricket and fitness, has been keeping a low profile while preparing for upcoming assignments. The coach’s timely clarification puts an end to the misinformation and confirms that no last-minute squad changes involving Babar are currently underway.
