Quetta: (Web Desk) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Azam Khan Swati was handed over from Baluchistan police to Sindh police. Senator’s advocate Iqbal shah informed that Mr. Swati was transferred to Sindh on a private plane as Baluchistan High Court (BHC) ordered to release him.
BHC orders to quash cases: Earlier today, the Baluchistan High Court (BHC) ordered quashing of all cases registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Khan Swati over controversial statements against the state institutions. BHC’s Justice Hashim Kakar issued the verdict on a petition filed by the PTI stalwart’s son, Usman Swati.
According to the source, he ordered police to quash all the five cases against the senior politician in the province. The hearing was attended by Mr. Swati’s lawyer Naseebullah Tareen and SSP Investigation Asad Nasir.
Before this week, the high court barred police from lodging further cases against the PTI leader after his son moved court. The petitioner prayed that the court set his father at liberty. At the same time, the Insaf Lawyers Forum has challenged the senator’s physical remand in the high court.
As per details a Quetta’s district court remanded the senator in police custody for five days on Sunday, a week after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested him in Islamabad in a case pertaining to controversial tweets against the military.
Furthermore the senator was shifted to Quetta by a special flight amid tight security on Friday last after the judicial magistrate of Islamabad handed him over to the Baluchistan police.
Police stopped from lodging cases: Previously, a bench of the BHC comprising Justice Kamran Khan Mulakhail and Justice Amir Rana directed police not to lodge any further case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Senator Azam Swati. The heard the plea filed by the PTI leader’s son, Usman Swati, to bar police from lodging further cases against Azam Swati.
According to the source, upon this, the court sought report from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of cases and directed not to lodge any further case against the PTI leader. A petition had filed in the Baluchistan High Court seeking quashment of cases against PTI Senator Azam Swati. Mr. Swati’s son prayed the court to set his father at liberty. At the same time, the Insaf Lawyers Forum has challenged the senator’s physical remand in the high court.
