TEHRAN: (Web Desk) – Following the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US‑Israeli strikes, Iran has appointed Ayatollah Alireza Arafi as a member of the country’s interim Leadership Council, effectively making him the acting Supreme Leader, according to Iranian state media and official sources.

Arafi, a senior cleric who serves on the Guardian Council and the Assembly of Experts, will join President Masoud Pezeshkian and the head of the judiciary in the three‑member leadership council. The council will carry out the duties of the Supreme Leader during the transition period until the Assembly of Experts elects a permanent successor, as per constitutional procedures.
