Australian Players Unlikely to Travel to India Again to Play IPL 2025
Cricket Australia Supports Players Reluctant to Return to India
The ongoing IPL 2025 suspension due to the cross border tensions between Pakistan and India has left Australian players shaken and uncertain about returning to India to complete the tournament.
According to a report from The Age, all Australian IPL cricketers have safely returned home, but many remain anxious about the prospect of rejoining the league amid security concerns.
Cricket Australia (CA) has promised to support players who may be reluctant to return to India, emphasizing that decisions will be respected on a case-by-case basis without penalizing players in future IPL editions. This reassurance comes as players face pressure not only from safety fears but also from the possibility of being sidelined if they choose not to travel back.
The IPL was suspended after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was abandoned mid-game due to security concerns after anticipation of Pakistan’s retaliation to India’s attack.
The BCCI has indicated that the tournament could resume soon, possibly relocating remaining matches to safer southern cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
However, the uncertainty remains high, especially for Australian stars such as Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, who also have tight international schedules ahead, including the World Test Championship final and tours.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board is closely monitoring the situation and will consult with stakeholders and government authorities before announcing a revised schedule.
