Australia Defeat West Indies by Three Wickets to Take 4–0 Lead in T20 Series
Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh praised his bowlers for setting the tone early.
BASSETERRE– Australia secured a three-wicket win over the West Indies in the fourth Twenty20 international on Saturday, extending their dominance with a 4–0 lead in the five-match series.
Chasing a target of 206, the visitors overcame the early loss of captain Mitchell Marsh for a duck. A steady 66-run stand between Glenn Maxwell (47) and Josh Inglis (51) laid the groundwork for a successful chase. Cameron Green’s composed 55 off 35 balls — his third half-century in the series — proved pivotal as Australia clinched victory with four balls to spare.
Despite the loss, West Indies’ Jediah Blades impressed with the ball, finishing with figures of 3-29 from his four overs.
Earlier in the match, West Indies posted a competitive total of 205/9. Sherfane Rutherford led the scoring with a modest 31-run contribution. However, Australia’s bowlers kept the pressure on throughout, with spinner Adam Zampa claiming three wickets, while pacers Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, and Aaron Hardie chipped in with two wickets each.
Speaking after the match, Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh praised his bowlers for setting the tone early. “To take a few early wickets… we knew teams like the West Indies bat deep and would keep coming hard, which they did,” he said.
The final match of the series will serve as a last chance for the hosts to salvage a win after a disappointing campaign so far.
