ATC disposes of bail petition of PTI leader

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore has disposed of a bail petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mian Mehmoodur Rashid in connection with a case involving addressing an unlawful gathering, arson, and besieging the Sherpao Bridge, 24NewsHD TV reported.

The case was heard by ATC Judge Arshad Javed on Friday. During the proceedings, the former provincial minister chose to withdraw his bail plea.

In his petition, Mian Mehmoodur Rashid argued that the charges against him were politically motivated and lacked legal merit.

The case, registered at the Sarwar Road Police Station, is part of a wider crackdown on PTI leadership.

Earlier, on July 14, 2025, the PTI strongly condemned the ATC’s rejection of bail applications for three of its senior leaders — Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Omer Sarfraz Cheema, and Mian Mehmoodur Rashid. The party labeled the court’s decision as “politically motivated and legally flawed.”

The FIR (No. 103/230) was lodged by Sarwar Road Police against the trio. PTI’s Punjab media cell pointed out that the ATC ruling contradicted established legal principles, particularly highlighting that Senator Ijaz Chaudhry had already been granted bail in the same case by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
