Dubai – The first innings of the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh has concluded at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with Sri Lanka setting a target of 169 runs for Bangladesh.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh elected to field first – a decision that initially paid off. Sri Lanka’s top order struggled to gain momentum early on. Opener Pathum Nissanka scored a quick 22, while Kusal Mendis contributed a solid 34, providing a steady start.

However, timely breakthroughs by the Bangladeshi bowlers prevented Sri Lanka from fully capitalizing in the powerplay. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka then turned the tide with a brilliant counter-attacking innings, scoring 64 runs off just 37 balls. His knock included three boundaries and six towering sixes, anchoring Sri Lanka’s innings in the middle overs.

Charith Asalanka supported Shanaka well with a brisk 21, and their partnership pushed Sri Lanka to a competitive total of 168 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 crucial wickets for just 20 runs in his 4 overs. Mehidy Hasan also impressed with 2 wickets. Taskin Ahmed picked up 1 wicket, while Shoriful Islam and Nasum Ahmed proved expensive, conceding 49 and 36 runs respectively without taking a wicket.
