Asia Cup 2025 Tentatively Set to Begin on September 10 with India-Pakistan Clash

Speculation had earlier circulated about India potentially withdrawing from the Asia Cup 2025 amid escalating tensions with Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: The cricketing world is buzzing with anticipation as the tentative start date for the Asia Cup 2025 has been revealed. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the tournament is expected to kick off with a highly anticipated match between traditional rivals India and Pakistan, a fixture that has always captured global attention.

While the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is yet to officially confirm the schedule, early details suggest that the blockbuster India-Pakistan clash could be one of the marquee events of the tournament. The ACC is reportedly planning to announce the full schedule for the six-team event at the beginning of July.

The Asia Cup 2025 is slated to commence in the second week of September, most likely on September 10, and will be played in the T20 format. The participating teams include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Although India is the official host for this edition, the tournament is expected to be held in the UAE due to ongoing political tensions in the region. Discussions are also underway about adopting a hybrid format for the event.

Speculation had earlier circulated about India potentially withdrawing from the Asia Cup 2025 amid escalating tensions with Pakistan. Recent reports from Indian media highlighted that India and Pakistan are unlikely to face each other in the group stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, a matter set to be discussed at the upcoming ICC annual conference.

The strained relations between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been well documented in recent years. The latest flashpoint was India’s decision to skip the Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan, leading to a “fusion formula” agreement. Under this pact, both boards have reportedly agreed not to tour each other’s countries for ICC events over the next three years, opting instead to play matches at neutral venues.
