Asia Cup 2025: PCB Secures Removal of Match Referee Andy Pycroft

PCB Chairman Orders Team to Proceed as Andy Pycroft Removed from Pakistan–UAE Clash

Dubai: In a dramatic turn of events ahead of a crucial Asia Cup fixture, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that match referee Andy Pycroft will not officiate in the Pakistan vs. United Arab Emirates match following objections raised by the PCB.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi instructed the national team to proceed to the stadium after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) accepted Pakistan’s demand to remove Pycroft. The decision follows tensions stemming from Pycroft’s conduct during the earlier Pakistan–India encounter.

The toss for the Pakistan–UAE match is now scheduled for 8:00 PM, with the game expected to begin at 8:30 PM, following a one-hour delay. The match holds critical importance, as the winner will advance to face India in the next stage on September 21.

Earlier, PCB officials expressed dissatisfaction over Pycroft’s handling of the Pakistan–India match, particularly his alleged role in preventing a post-match handshake between the captains and his inaction over Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav’s political remarks during the presentation ceremony.

Both the match referee and the Indian captain were accused of violating Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) regulations, prompting Pakistan to demand accountability. While Pycroft’s removal has been confirmed, there has been no official announcement yet regarding disciplinary action against Yadav.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has remained in close consultation with former board officials throughout the day, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to upholding the spirit of the game and ensuring fairness in tournament proceedings.

As the team prepares to face UAE under heightened scrutiny and renewed determination, all eyes will be on this high-stakes fixture — not just for its sporting importance but also for the precedent it sets in tournament governance.
