Asad says assemblies’ dissolution will give PTI ‘an edge’
Governor should not wait for 2 days, immediately dissolve assembly: Fawad
KARACHI/Lahore – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Asad Umar said on Friday that political dissolution will prove to be beneficial for his party.
The PTI leader said, “There was a chance that we will not be allowed to dissolve assemblies, as of now we have crossed that hurdle and now the nation is worried that there will be no elections.”
Asad Umar while slamming the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said, “There is no doubt that the electoral watchdog is a biased institution as it issued arrest warrants against PTI chief Imran Khan and me”. Such an institute should not conduct elections as it was not good for the government, adding that his party had filed a reference against the Chief Election Commissioner, Mr Umar added.
Mr Umar added, “We hope that the court will decide regarding this situation, though we will still contest elections even under the supervision of the current CEC.” He added that PTI’s legal team was all set to face the next phases as well.
Mr Umar said it was clearly written in the constitution that elections should be held within 90 days and that no judiciary would ever allow open defiance of the constitution.
Furthermore, Mr Umar said that elections should be held despite the ongoing census.
Fawad Hussain Chaudhry said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly will be dissolved after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly as the advice to dissolve the JP Assembly has been prepared.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the former federal minister held a media talk outside the PTI chairman Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence in Lahore on Friday.
Fawad Chaudhry said after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly, the order to dissolve the KP Assembly will be issued immediately.
The PTI leader said the KP Chief Minister and the cabinet members had a telephone conversation on the matter.
About the Punjab Governor’s statement to take two days to decide the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly on the advice of CM Pervez Elahi, Fawad said Baligh-ur-Rehman should not wait for 48 hours and must dissolve the assembly immediately.
To a query, Fawad Chaudhry hinted that President Arif Alvi can ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take a vote of confidence but the time for this move will be decided by the President himself.
