Court bars police from arresting PTI’s Shandana, Afridi until tomorrow,

ISLAMABAD  – An anti -terrorism court of Islamabad on Wednesday ordered arrest of journalist Sabir Shakir and Moeed Pirzada for inciting people to commit terrorism and treason on May 9.

Anti -Terrorism Court Judge Abul Hasnaat Zulqarnain issued a permanent arrest warrant for senior journalists and anchorpersons Shakir and Pirzada.

Earlier, the ATC had launched proceedings against Shakir and Pirzada. A case was registered in the police station for inciting the subjects to rebellion.

The court ordered that the police should arrest Shakir and Pirzada and present them in court.

While,

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday barred the police from arresting PTI’s Shandana Gulzar and Shehryar Afridi in any other case until tomorrow,

IHC’s Justice Babar Sattar heard the petitions filed by Shandana and Afridi, seeking annulment of the maintenance of public order (MPO), which had already been suspended by the court.

Afridi, however, could not appear in the court.

Shandana appeared in the court along with her counsel Sher Afzal Marwat.

Court’s Assistant Waqar Rana completed his arguments with respect to the powers of a magistrate.

The second assistant will give his arguments tomorrow.

Court approves three-day physical remand of Ejaz Ch

A court in Lahore again approved three-day physical remand of PTI stalwart Fawad Chaudhry in the case of torching police vehicles outside the Zaman Park residence of former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan on May 9.

The judge granted the remand after he was informed that some new sections, including that of sedition, had been inserted in the case registered against the PTI leader.

However, the court told the police that since Ejaz’s condition was not stable; therefore they would have to question him in the jail.

Earlier, the investigation officer (IO) in the case produced the ailing PTI leader in the court, and sought physical remand of the suspect.

Case No 852/23 was registered against Ejaz and others at Lahore’s Racecourse police station following incidents of violence on May 9.
