Arif Habib Consortium Finalises Roadmap for Revival of PIA
A high-level meeting of the Arif Habib Consortium was held to review and finalise plans for the revival and restructuring of Pakistan International Airlines following its acquisition. The participants unanimously agreed to work towards restoring PIA as the country’s most profitable and respected airline.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Fauji Foundation, Arif Habib Group, Lake City Holdings, City School Group, Fatima Group, and members of the PIA Board of Directors. A detailed briefing was presented on the airline’s existing financial, administrative, and operational situation, followed by an extensive discussion on future strategy.
Sources said the discussions focused on prioritising restructuring initiatives, cutting operational costs, improving efficiency, and bringing services in line with international standards. Emphasis was placed on rebuilding PIA’s reputation, ensuring punctuality, upgrading passenger facilities, and modernising the fleet to secure long-term success.
The consortium also explored ways to enhance cooperation with international airlines, including possible partnerships in code sharing, training, maintenance, and network expansion, to help PIA regain competitiveness in the global aviation market.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to managing PIA on a fully professional basis, free from political influence, with decisions driven strictly by sound business principles. Improving human resources, staff training, and adopting modern technology were identified as central to the airline’s transformation.
Terming PIA a national symbol, members of the Arif Habib Consortium pledged to use all available resources to turn it into one of the leading airlines in the region once again. The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold regular follow-up sessions to track progress and ensure timely implementation of agreed plans.
