Apple Set to Redefine iPhone Design with Major Overhaul in iPhone 17 Pro

A major internal upgrade comes in the form of a vapor chamber cooling system—a first for any iPhone.

Cupertino, CA – May 27, 2025: Apple is preparing to break from its tradition of incremental updates with the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro later this year, promising a dramatic redesign and a host of powerful upgrades.

The upcoming flagship is being hailed as one of the most significant iPhone updates in years, marking a bold departure from the design language and hardware choices that have defined recent models.

Redesigned Camera System

For the first time since the iPhone 11 Pro, Apple is completely overhauling the rear camera design. While the triangular lens layout remains, the familiar square bump will be replaced by a new horizontal camera bar that stretches across the back of the device. This fresh design also sees the LiDAR scanner, flash, and microphone moved to the right side of the bar, colour-matched with the phone’s body for a cleaner, unified look.

New Materials and Cooling System

Apple is also shifting away from its use of stainless steel and titanium, opting instead for an aluminium-infused back that provides a new tactile experience. A glass window will be integrated to maintain support for wireless charging and MagSafe, while offering a more functional and robust build.

A major internal upgrade comes in the form of a vapor chamber cooling system—a first for any iPhone. This addition is aimed at reducing overheating, enabling faster charging, better gaming performance, and minimizing thermal throttling. Apple hopes this will result in smoother performance across all usage scenarios.

Under-the-Hood Improvements

The iPhone 17 Pro will also feature several performance-focused enhancements:

  • A new in-house Wi-Fi chip for faster and more efficient connectivity

  • An upgrade to 12GB of RAM

  • A 24MP front-facing camera for improved selfies and video calls

  • A new 48MP telephoto lens for enhanced zoom and clarity

  • Dual video recording capabilities within the native Camera app

While early speculation pointed to a smaller Dynamic Island, recent reports suggest that this change will not be present in the final design.

A New Era for the iPhone Pro

With its bold new aesthetics, advanced cooling, and meaningful performance gains, the iPhone 17 Pro is being positioned as Apple’s most ambitious smartphone in recent memory. For users eager for an iPhone that feels truly new, this year’s Pro model is set to deliver in both form and function.
