Apple iPhone 17 May Get a Price Hike, But Not Because of Tariffs
The report notes that Apple may justify the higher price based on changes to the product lineup.
ISLAMABAD: Apple is reportedly considering raising prices for its upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. The decision has not been finalized and is said to be independent of the ongoing US tariffs on Chinese imports.
Although the United States and China have agreed to a 90-day pause on the imposition of additional tariffs, existing levies remain in place. Chinese imports entering the US are still subject to a combined 30% tariff. Despite these conditions, sources familiar with the matter indicate that Apple will not attribute any potential price increase to trade tensions.
Design Changes May Drive Pricing Shift
The report notes that Apple may justify the higher price based on changes to the product lineup. These changes include the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air, described as thinner and lighter than previous models, and updated features in the Pro models. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to include a redesigned camera module, a shift to aluminum frames, and the addition of reverse wireless charging.
Production Shifts to India
At the same time, Apple appears to be increasing its efforts to diversify its supply chain. The company has reportedly accelerated production shifts to India, with all iPhone 17 units sold in the US expected to be manufactured there. Foxconn, Apple’s key assembly partner, plans to double iPhone production in India to 30 million units in 2025.
