Anti-Terrorism Court Rejects Imran Khan’s Two Petitions in GHQ Attack Case
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed both of Imran Khan’s petitions.
Rawalpindi – An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Monday dismissed two petitions filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan related to the May 9 GHQ attack case.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah presided over the hearing, during which Imran Khan’s legal counsels, Faisal Malik and Salman Akram Raja, appeared before the court.
During the proceedings, the defense requested the court to provide CCTV footage of the September 19 hearing and to halt trial proceedings until the Islamabad High Court decides on a petition regarding transferring the case to jail premises.
Advocate Faisal Malik argued that the defense team did not wish to proceed without consulting Imran Khan. However, the judge reminded them that the court had previously arranged a conversation between Khan and his lawyers, during which Khan chose to boycott the proceedings. The court stated that any concerns regarding communication via WhatsApp should be raised before the High Court, but ongoing court proceedings could not be halted.

The prosecutor criticized the defense’s conduct, stating that the defense lawyers had boycotted previous hearings and were not taking the trial seriously. “They walk out one day and then return the next asking for more time. Their actions show they are not sincere about this trial and are simply wasting the court’s time,” the prosecutor said.
In response, Salman Akram Raja emphasized that the court must operate under constitutional principles, not government directives, and questioned the fairness of using a WhatsApp call to present a detained individual.
The judge maintained that the defense had the right to challenge the court’s orders in a higher court but reiterated that trial proceedings could not be paused without instructions from the High Court. He also noted that during the last opportunity for communication, Imran Khan began delivering a speech instead of addressing the case.
