Another PTI-backed candidate from Karachi joins PPP

Karachi: Aijaz Khan Swati, a candidate supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who secured victory in PS-88 Malir during the General Elections 2024, has announced his decision to join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

In a video message, Aijaz Khan Swati stated that he is joining the PPP without any conditions, expressing his hope that the party led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would earnestly strive for the progress and welfare of his constituents.

He emphasized that his decision to join the PPP is motivated by his commitment to serving his constituents.

Aijaz Khan Swati, backed by the PTI, emerged victorious from PS-88 with 17,580 votes, surpassing PPP’s Muzammil Shah, who received 12,762 votes.

It is noteworthy that Aijaz Khan Swati is the second elected member supported by the PTI to formally announce his departure from the party, following Wasim Qadir, the newly elected Member of the National Assembly from NA-121 Lahore, who has joined the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).

With the inclusion of the PTI-backed independent candidate, the PPP’s tally of general seats in the Sindh Assembly will increase to 86.

The PPP had secured 84 general seats in the General Elections held on February 8, and another independent candidate from PS-3 Jacobabad, Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani, had already declared his intention to join the party.

Earlier on February 11th, another PTI-backed independent candidate had expressed his full confidence and announced his decision to join the PML-N.

Waseem Qadir, the newly elected Member of the National Assembly from NA-121 Lahore-V, held a meeting with PML-N’s senior vice president Maryam Nawaz in Lahore, where he expressed his unwavering trust in the leadership of PML-N’s supreme leader, Nawaz Sharif.

During the meeting, Qadir discussed his alignment with the party and their shared vision for the constituency with Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
